--about
funroll-loops.org is a parody site dedicated to the Linux community's
most passionate, most over-optimized, most lovable subculture: source-based distro users, and
Gentoo users above all. The name is a tribute to -funroll-loops — a real compiler
flag that real people set in real make.conf files in the sincere belief that it
would make their desktop feel faster. Sometimes it even did. Mostly it just made the compile
longer.
What we do
We collect, curate, and gently roast the artifacts of optimization culture: the forum quotes, the eleven-hour compiles, the USE-flag holy wars, and the unshakeable conviction that a binary package is a moral failing. We bold the parts that are too good to be true. We are almost never the ones who made them up — that's the best part.
Is this mean?
No. It's affectionate. We run Linux. We have set ridiculous CFLAGS. We have waited for OpenOffice to build. This site exists because we recognize ourselves in every quote, and because a community confident enough to be teased is a community in good health.
The --articles section
Beyond the classic static pages, the --articles section is a living feed of dispatches from the source-based frontier, organized by distro and by author. Browse by --Gentoo, --Debian, or --Linux.
